Last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Maya’s very beautiful (and extremely fun) bat mitzvah. I started the day with family portraits at Temple Beth Or in Raleigh and had the pleasure of meeting all of Maya’s family. Later that evening, I joined Maya and her family (that came from all over the world to celebrate her special day) at Prestonwood Country Club. The place was stunning with a tastefully, elegant beach theme. The soft shades of blues and corals was perfect.
The evening was fun for all. It started with a limbo contest and the partying didn’t stop the whole night. There were so many highlights to the evening. Maya was officially announced to all of her guests and then danced the Horah. When Maya finally caught her breath, she sang two beautiful songs. The first one she sang was a cover of Riptide by Vance Joy. Oh my….. can the girl sing!!!! I was blown away by the soulfulness in her voice. It was just amazing. Then Maya went into Meghan Trainor’s Dear Future Husband and was accompanied by her little sister.
After a toast from Maya’s father and the blessing of the challah, the guests were invited to enjoy a delicious dinner. Before I knew it the kids (and adults) were back on the dance floor having the time of their lives. One of Maya’s friends requested “Ice, Ice Baby” and rapped the entire lyrics. I’m pretty sure that the last time I heard that song in a large group was when I attended my friends bar and bat mitzvahs many, many moons ago.
Later in the evening, there was a photo slide show presentation with pictures of Maya over the years with friends and family. But before that, Maya’s uncle had something very special to share with her. He had brought a video message congratulating Maya on her bat mitzvah. The message was from no other than Meghan Trainor! Yeah, that Meghan Trainor. Meghan Trainor of “All About that Bass” fame.
The evening ended with the candle lighting ceremony. Maya lit 13 candles in honor of all the special people in her life that shaped her in to the person she is today. There were lots of smiles, hugs, and proud looks. You can tell that Maya is surrounded by an amazing family and wonderful friends.
Thank you so much, Maya, for choosing me to be a part of your day. It was so much fun!
